Pew recently released the results from the March 2011 News IQ quiz, a series of 11 multiple 
choice questions concerning current events given to a random sample of ~1,000 US adults. Previously, I posted on how men consistently outperform women on this quiz, and the most recent survey was no exception to this rule. I've updated the original post accordingly.
The one question women fared better than men on concerned No Child Left Behind legislation. The Simpsons got it right in electing to give the "Won't somebody please think of the children?" catchphrase to a female character.

Im a woman, and I got an 8/11 which is pretty good since I don't watch the news. I'm surprised some people scored so low, since many spend half their lives glued to CNN or Fox (gotta get those talking points somewhere)....

I've taken the last two quizzes and aced them both. I make it a point to listen to the top of the hour radio news cycles a couple of times a day--paying attention to that is enough to nail just about every question. Men are presumably more likely to do that (pay attention and absorb it into a larger framework of the world in its current state).

Missed the obesity question (ironic since I write often about nutrition) and what we spend the most money on.
Okay, I got them all. I had to grin when I saw that congratulatory, "you did better than 98%" of the quiz takers. Ha, story of my life. 98th%ile. I don't watch or listen to much news. I just read OneSTDV, 1/2∑, AE, etc.

I'm a girl, and I never pay attention to the news. At most I skim headlines. Actually, I think whatever news I get, I get from listening to the men in my family talk about the news.
And I got 10/11 answers correct.
A lot of the answers are based on general knowledge (Gaddafi is the leader of which country) or can just be reasoned out. (e.g. OneStdv mentioned that he missed the obesity question. The US may be 50% overweight, but it's not 50% obese).

I am a male, Senior at an East Coast University and a proud conservative SWPL.
All is not lost for the class of 2011.
I do attribute my score to my interdisciplinary major.
Funny I also come from a Protestant household and the only child. I guess its the quality over quantity stance.

(Actually I'd probably count as a conservative SWPL because my general demeanor and background is SWPL, but not my interests, e.g. I don't drink coffee, like Manhattan, or wear tweed jackets.)

The problem with SWPL is that any private college educated Caucasian living in the East Coast can be included.
'Conservative WASP' would be more accurate, but it is implied that WASP is conservative.
Surprised myself by getting 11 out of 11. I'm really not a hardcore newsy these days.
Noticed women fared much poorer than men on the energy question. Another little tidbit suggesting men and women have fundamentally different interests.
i got 10 out of 11. got the obesity one wrong, too, but i under-guesstimated how many obsese americans there are. 25%?! holy krispy kreme donuts!!
i pay attention to the news via drudge and the blogs that i read. don't listen to the radio and don't own no tv machine. (~_^)
